The 'Famous Tailor' in Gilgit
Meet Farzana, “the famous tailor”. She is part of our team of trainers, teaching women in Gilgit how to sew. For over ten years Farzana has taught herself how to sew and has been making clothes to support her family. She shared that at the time, ‘every woman wanted to be highly educated but there were not the opportunities available’.
Today, she is joyfully passing on her knowledge to 25 other women in her village so they too can be recognised in their community and financially contribute to their family.
Your impact continues to spread, with nearly two-thirds of the women from these remote villages involved in our project and now generating an income from their new-found sewing skills! Our partners have received several comments from village members, with one describing the women as being ‘a blessing to the Ghizar District’. Earning even a modest income brings them societal recognition, self-worth and a real ‘voice’ in their communities.
Farzana and her peers are a shining example of how your giving can go on to have a lasting impact.
