Nicole’s story

Discover more about Nicole, one of the 'Belle Couture' Dressmakers of Kinshasa.

Last year Project Possible and our partners in Kinshasa DR Congo supported Nicole to begin her very own micro-enterprise, making and selling clothes. Nicole was directly supported by the fundraising efforts of our incredible women walkers from our Women Walking 4 Women event last year.

2020 was probably the toughest year to begin a new business given the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, but Nicole’s determination has been inspiring. She has worked hard and has built up a small network of regular customers, who she makes clothes for. She is excited that customers are returning as they will naturally recommend her to others! She has sold £200 of clothes in her first year, covering her costs and providing for her young family.

Nicole has faced a troubled childhood with extreme poverty leading to her facing exploitation as a young woman. However, these life experiences have left her even more determined to succeed.  She is such an inspiration to all around her and we delighted to see her growing into an independent businesswoman.

Thank you to everyone who walked in WW4W 2020 and helping Nicole!
