Covid learning pack
“‘My teachers showed kindness to me. I began to enjoy learning the songs and games in my home language. We learnt to write our letters in the air, using mud and seeds - different materials in our village. I then learnt in other languages - Odia and English – which I needed to know to go to secondary school.’ ” Sujit, 14.
So many schools in India have been closed for most of 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19. Online learning is not possible for families from the village communities supported by our 16 MLE centres in Malkangiri district in Odisha. To ensure that all 700 children continue with their education, a new learning model has been introduced – ‘learning the cluster way.’ Small, socially-distanced clusters within villages have formed and teachers are moving between these clusters providing lessons.
We don’t know how long Covid will continue to affect these communities but we are determined that all the children attending our centres have the opportunity to continue to learn.
£6 provides education support and materials to enable a child in a remote village community in India to learn in a small cluster
