A sewing machine
“I was lost and a useless human being”, remembered Khush, as she stood by her new sewing machine having graduated from our vocational course in her home village of Damas in northern Pakistan.
Khush never thought she would have this opportunity – never thought she was valuable. But we know differently and through this course, learning to sew clothes by hand and with a sewing machine, Khush has come to see that she is valuable and this certificate in her hand and the sewing machine by her side, is tangible hope for her future.
She says before the course she felt her days were wasted, sitting at home. Now she can ‘stand on her own two feet,’ even making money by selling her clothes to local people through the pandemic. She was able to bring food into her home earned with her own money, for the very first time in her life.
All of her family came to her graduation celebrating with her and Khush brimmed with confidence.
