How it started, his legacy
It all began with one man’s unwavering vision: to bring hope, dignity, and opportunity to those the world had overlooked. Our founder, Michael Wood MBE, a Christian businessman, saw not just hardship but the God-given potential in forgotten and marginalised communities.
In 1990, Michael Wood founded ROPE (Relief for Oppressed People Everywhere) with a clear mission to work hand-in-hand with local people – those who speak the language, live the culture and truly understand the challenges their communities face.
Together, they provided care in the name of Christ, so individuals could overcome disadvantage and build a future filled with hope.
Though Michael passed in 2016, his legacy lives on. His life is a powerful reminder that compassion can ignite lasting change.

Rebrand
In 2019, we recognised a shift. The nature of our work with partners and the communities we serve had evolved.
We shifted away from relief projects to more tailored, community-led initiatives focused on lasting impact. Our aim was to work everywhere; now we work where we can make a deeper difference.
Combining these aspects, we felt that the name ROPE no longer reflected what we do. It was time for a new name that honoured our past while embracing the future.
That’s when Project Possible was born – still rooted in compassion and our founder’s vision. Those same values guide everything we do, but now, with a name that truly reflects who we are today.
Who we are today
Today, Project Possible is a small charity with a bold mission. Driven by compassion and faith, and anchored in over three decades of experience.
We partner with local Christian-led organisations around the world to empower individuals to overcome disadvantage. The communities we work with want to thrive; our role is to come alongside them, support them in harnessing their potential, and build sustainable livelihoods so that they’re independent and continue to strengthen, long after we’re gone.
With the incredible support of the Project Possible community, we are making this a reality.

I continue to give to Project Possible because I feel it’s important to support small Christian charities when there are so many pleas for help from larger ones. It’s good to see love in action and hear how people are enabled to work and build a business, making a difference to families and communities.”
